A tenured professor at the University of North Georgia has been
placed on leave after an incident with a guest speaker earlier this
year, The Gainesville Times reports. Vicki McCard, a professor of Spanish, reportedly got into an argument with the speaker that led to her being placed on leave.
A panel of faculty members conducted an informal review and
recommended that Ms. McCard be fired, said the university’s associate
vice president for university relations, Kate Maine. Rather than request
a formal hearing, Ms. McCard agreed to bring in an external mediator
and postpone the hearing.
