Faculty at Sweet Briar Votes to Oppose Closing the College

The Chronicle of Higher Education
March 17th, 2015

Faculty members at Sweet Briar College voted Monday night to oppose shuttering the college, two weeks after the administration announced it would close its doors because of “financial challenges.” The Roanoke Times reports that about 65 faculty members passed a resolution that also calls for an audience with the college’s Board of Directors. The college has about 80 full-time faculty members.
Students and alumni have mounted a fund-raising effort to keep the college open, and also plan to contest the college’s closure on legal grounds.
