NYU Faculty Want Academic at Helm

Wall Street Journal
January 22nd, 2015

With the hunt under way for a successor to New York University President John Sexton , faculty members are advocating for an academic to fill the post even as the search committee considers a broader range of candidates.
Faculty demands for a scholar-president come as job interviews are set to begin in February for one of higher education’s most high-profile positions, according to people familiar with the matter.
“This is the most compelling [academic] presidency open in the United States,” said John Isaacson, chairman of Isaacson, Miller, a search firm working with NYU’s internal search committee to choose Mr. Sexton’s successor. “The reason is pretty straightforward: It’s a broad-scale university in one of the great cities of the world.”
