How Many Ways Must We Say It?

have heard a great deal of talk about my college being a business and my students being customers. This talk is both disconcerting and dangerous. There are very real risks when people in higher education take this talk seriously. I had only heard it from administrators, but recently I heard it from a colleague.
From administrators, such talk is annoying but unsurprising; from a colleague, it is deeply disturbing. We should denounce these claims as literally false and metaphorically dangerous. We can do so in at least thirty-one ways:
