The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Faculty Senate voted no confidence in the college’s president, Ray L. Watts, on Thursday morning because of his decision in December to eliminate the institution’s football program, reports WBRC, a local television station. The program was the first Football Bowl Subdivision program to be axed since 1995. Students and fans have protested the decision. On Tuesday, the college’s student government voted no confidence in Mr. Watts, who has said he would not resign because of such votes.
