A Harvard Business School professor has apologized for lambasting an
employee of a Chinese restaurant in emails claiming he was overcharged
by $4, according to a statement on his personal website.
The emails—between Benjamin G. Edelman, the professor, and Ran Duan,
who works at a branch of Sichuan Garden, a restaurant founded by his
parents—went viral on Tuesday after they were published by The Boston Globe.
“Having reflected on my interaction with Ran, including what I said
and how I said it, it’s clear that I was very much out of line,” Mr.
Edelman wrote in his statement, adding that he planned to apologize to
Mr. Duan in person.
