AAUP insists on shared governance in Purdue merger

The Michigan City News

On Tuesday, the fledgling Purdue University Calumet chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) will discuss faculty concerns about the merger of Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central, a move instigated by Purdue University President Mitch Daniels.
"Consulting with faculty after decisions are made is not shared governance," said David Nalbone, associate professor of psychology and president of Calumet's AAUP chapter.

Nalbone is referring to a letter from Purdue Calumet's Vice President for Public Affairs Julie Griffith that suggested "after the consolidation has been worked out, faculty input will be sought and given great weight."
